Area Councils
Area Councils & Committees Heading link
The mission of Area Councils within Campus Housing at UIC is to build community within their respective halls/areas, adding to the positive experience residents have by providing programming and serving as the voice of resident concerns.
General Information:
- Every student living in a UIC Residence Hall is a member of their building/area Area Council
- Area Councils will be run by students elected by their peers
- Executive Board position terms are for one academic year
- Area Council Executive Boards host bi-monthly Area Council Meetings. AC meetings are open to all residents of the hall/area to discuss programs, resident concerns and community issues
- Executive Board members meet privately (at a minimum of twice a month) to discuss Area Council issues and prepare for GA meetings and events.
- Each Area Council has a budget to support programs and initiatives within their communities.
Why you should run for a position:
- Serve as an advocate for your peers
- Connect with other residents living on campus
- Develop leadership skills
- Gain event planning skills
- Improve public speaking skills
- Build your resume
- Network with professional staff. Many Area Council members go on to serve as leaders for the entire campus as Resident Assistants, Peer Mentors, Tour Guides, and desk workers because of the relationships they build with current Campus Housing staff.
